ONE BENCH, ONE POST OFFICE

IT LEAVES A

WORKSHOP, NOT A WAREHOUSE.

Every machine is assembled and tested by hand in Poland. The same building that soldered it addresses the label.

That is worth knowing before you order, because it explains most of what follows: why the number of destinations is short rather than global, why lead time depends on what you bought, and why an e-mail asking about an unusual address usually gets a straight answer rather than a policy.

What is on this page is a summary of § 8 and § 9 of our Terms and Conditions, plus what the checkout is actually set up to do today. It creates no new charges and no new deadlines.

THE FIGURE THAT COUNTS

Delivery is charged on top of the price of the goods, and it is worked out in your basket before you pay. That figure — not this page — is the one that binds.

Prices in the shop are shown in euro. For delivery within the European Union they include VAT at the rate of the country of delivery. For delivery outside the European Union no VAT is charged and the price shown is the final price. The shop’s base currency is the euro. Delivery rates are fixed in euro and shown in your basket before you pay.

WHERE WE POST TO

Europe, North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania — fifty-six countries with carriage worked out, tested and priced at checkout before you commit to anything. The company behind this workshop has been shipping hardware for over twenty years, and the routes were not invented for retro computers; they were already running.

EUROPE

DOOR TO DOOR

Thirty countries, from Iceland and Norway down to Malta and Cyprus, and from Ireland across to Turkey. Courier to the door throughout, on rates that are the same whichever town you live in.

THE AMERICAS

ACROSS THE WATER

United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. The Timex crowd and everyone who grew up with a TK90X or a Czerweny — this is where most of these machines end up.

ASIA · OCEANIA · MIDDLE EAST

THE LONG HAUL

Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Israel, the Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

CARRIERS WE ACTUALLY USE

UPS, DHL, DPD and FedEx. For any given address the cheapest sound option is the one that gets picked — there is no house carrier taking a margin, and no surcharge for the privilege of living far away.

PACKED TO SURVIVE THE TRIP

A computer that has been burn-in tested and signed off by a person should not be undone by a pallet truck in a depot. Every parcel goes out insured, and it is packed on the assumption that it will be handled badly at least once on the way.

YOUR COUNTRY NOT ON THE LIST?

Put the address into the basket and the rate appears, or nothing does — which is the honest answer either way. If nothing does, write to us: the list grows when there is a reason for it to grow. Ask about your country →

WHAT IT COSTS

One flat rate per destination, regardless of how many small items ride along with the machine. It appears in the basket, again at checkout, and once more in the order confirmation.

Delivery is paid unless the contract says otherwise; the goods’ price and the carriage are always shown as separate figures, never bundled.

WHO CARRIES IT

The Terms let us hand a parcel to UPS, DHL, DPD or FedEx, choosing whichever serves a given address best or most cheaply. Every consignment travels insured under our own agreement with the carrier, and if something goes wrong on the way it is we who open the claim, not you.

In practice the rate you will meet at checkout today is a DPD courier rate. If a carrier suits you badly — a locker you cannot reach, a firm you have had trouble with — say so in the order notes and we will do what we can.

NO FREE-SHIPPING THRESHOLD

There is no order value above which carriage becomes free, because we have not set one and we are not going to imply one here. If that changes, it will change in the checkout first and on this page immediately after.

WHEN IT LEAVES

The Terms tie dispatch to the time stated in each product’s own description, and the clock starts when the money is with us: for a transfer, a card or an electronic payment, on the day our account is credited.

Order several things with different lead times and the whole order travels when the slowest one is ready. You may also ask us to split it and send what is ready now — that choice is yours, and it is in the Terms.

A word on why nothing here says “same day”. The workshop builds in the order of about thirty machines a month, each one assembled and tested by a person. A board that fails its test does not go in a box, and we would rather write to you about a delay than post something we have not finished checking.

PAYING FOR IT

The methods available to you are shown at checkout before you confirm anything, together with the total including carriage. Payment in full is taken before a machine is boxed.

If you would rather arrange a plain bank transfer, or you are ordering as a business and need an invoice first, write to us and we will set it up by hand.

HOW IT
TRAVELS.

A ZX Spectrum Neo goes out as a complete set in its own box — the machine, the manual and what the listing says comes with it — so that what arrives on your table looks like something that was meant to be opened rather than something that was merely dispatched. Boards ordered on their own are the fragile part of the catalogue, and they are treated accordingly.

CHANGED YOUR MIND AFTER IT ARRIVES?

Consumers have fourteen days to withdraw, and we would rather you knew that before you ordered than after.
